Developing Mobile Games In Your Bedroom

Filed under: Home Business Ideas — Tags: — Eureka @ 10:02 pm

Back in early 2006, the Media Development Authority of Singapore, launched a program called INVIGORATE, a mobile game development initiative targeted at Singapore-based companies and teams.  One specific target is a startup mobile game development studio.

With the maturity of 3G and now 3.5G mobile networks and with mobile phones getting smarter with every new model, creating mobiles games could be a lucrative venture for the tech savvy work at home entrepreneur. (.Singapore-based companies and teams can be home-based as well)

Trism Mobile Game And Tap Tap For iPhone

Demter's Trism Mobile Game For iPhone

In fact, a popular iPhone game, Trism, which became a hit in August 2008, has made its creator, Steve Demeter, a neat passive income of tens of thousands of dollars. Steve Demter, created Trism in his spare time, and made  $250,000 in its first two months on Apple’s “App Store” — enough to entice him to quit his job as an ATM software designer and start his own game development studio.

But you don’t need a studio to make big money with mobile games. Independent developers, like Ethan Nicholos, working as a one-man team, created iShoot, which, climb to No. 1 on Apple’s list of most popular paid applications. In just two weeks, iShoot netted Nicholas almost $400,000 in profits… and the application is still selling even today. That mountain of money has prompted Nicholas too to quit his day job at Sun Microsystems to pursue game development full time. The move was a decisive one for Nicholas. And his response to those who ridiculed his move to leave his lucrative day job was in the true spirit of a self-made businessman: This is why you will never be rich.

Another iPhone game success story is Tap Tap Revenge, The game, which is available for free on the App Store, has been downloaded over two million times. Tapulous, the developer of the game, recently started inserting advertisements in the game. With a strategy that has become increasingly popular during the broadband era, the company gave away their product for free, and then figured out how to generate revenue later (much like Google did with Gmail). The passive income from the advertisers would make the government handouts to the average Singaporeans  laughable.

Fret not if you not have the skills at mobile game development yet, go get a Diploma in Games Design and Development from the Singapore Polytechnic.

Isn’t this what the Singapore government wants us to do, go back to school in this current global recession?

Singapore also happens to be a fertile live testing ground for mobile games, because of the up to date mobile networks and the availability of the latest mobile phone models as soon as they get off the production lines. So if the iPhone does not impress you, develop a game for a Motorola Razr or a Samsung Innov8.

To get your creative juice flowing here are some mobile game ideas:

  • Mobile adventure games
  • Mobile community, “Sim-style” games
  • Games that allow two or more users to compete with each other over Bluetooth
    Or via a network.
  • Mobile games making full use of extended phone features such as the camera.
  • Location-aware mobile games.

The work at home mobile game development studio can be a lucrative venture for some enterprising individuals in Singapore, given the easy access to broadband connections, the high quality mobile networks, and the latest mobile phone models. Working at home developing mobiles games need not be a one-man effort either,  online collaboration/conference software make team work a breeze minus the traveling time on the crowded MRT.

Working At Home With The World As Your Employer

ODesk.com

ODesk.com

The Internet has shrunk the world, but it has enlarged the world’s workforce. There are many online job portals that provide jobs opportunities for job seekers all over the world.

A case in point is Singapore, where foreigners hold a good portion of its service sectors jobs.  I met an enterprising Filipino cashier at a restaurant and was presently surprised that as a Filipino she has a job many Singaporeans would want to have to. It turns out that she has found the job on an online job portal.

With the current recessionary mood, Singaporeans could well have improved their chances of employment if they would just be more enterprising like the Filipino, who enlarged her pool of job resources by looking worldwide on the Internet.

A possible reason why many are not doing is because, they just cannot let go of the comfort and belonging they get by remaining in Singapore. Perhaps an alternative for this group of people is jobs from around the world that can be sourced online but can be done at home.

A good online portal is odesk.com.  This is a portal that match make job seekers with job providers. The key feature is that all the jobs are done remotely in the job seekers own home or local office.

The type of jobs are odesk are varied but they white collar jobs in these areas:

  •  Software development
  •  Web Development
  •  Graphics Art and Design
  •  Audio Video Multimedia
  •  Networking And Information System
  •  Administrative Support
  • Writing.
  • Data entry

So the range of jobs ranges from highly skilled to normal skills that any Singaporean with a GCE ‘O’ level would have or can easily acquired. Jobs for data entry, accounting and bookkeeping, email response handling should be well within the reach of many Singaporeans who want to  have  real work at home jobs.

The wages offer are not to be laugh at either. It would beat working at McDonalds( at last count, its seems most McDonalds counter jobs are staffed by people from China, Phillippines or India), you don’t spend time and money traveling, you work as many hours as you want and when you want in the comfort of your home.

Singaporeans who have make odesk their global employer are invited to share their experience here, comment freely. Internet connections in Singapore is relatively cheap and reliable and a PC cost less than SGD 500, working at home is an option to be consider.

Membershipwholesaler Ready Made Membership Sites

A Picture Tells A Thousand Words

I was just pondering, why Singaporeans are not flocking online yet to create a work at home business for themselves yet.  The thing is we have high speed broadband connection to almost every home.

Couple to that Singaporeans are about the most educated in the world and most are very computer literate.  Allow me to offer a explanation – Singaporeans are just NOT AWARE of the huge opportunities out there one the internet. FULL STOP.

One business that can be easily operated on the internet is a membership site. A membership site is a website where paid or free members get private access to services and information in the form of audio video and text on a regular basis from the operator of the membership site.
A good membership site candidate is a site offering stock investments tips and quotes, given that this is probably the favourite hobby ( for some it is an addiction ) of most Singaporean.
However, one reason many locals here are not running a membership site is because they think it is a difficult thing to setup.

However my friend Ian has this to say:

Imagine having paid membership sites in 2 niches a month
where you get paid 100% of the fees for members you recruit…
Well you don’t have to imagine it.  It’s a reality and my friend
Ian del Carmen is giving you an amazing deal on this very unusual
and potentially lucrative concept.
There are some fantastic opportunities here for you to make some real
ongoing income by recruiting members in various niches.
Go take a look at Ian’s new Membership Wholesaler deal now…
I forgot to mention that you don’t have to run these sites, provide web hosting or do any of the grunt work.
That’s all done for you.
You just promote the sites and collect the checks.
It doesn’t get any easier than that.
Go take a look now…

Singaporeans reading this and are baffled, but wanted to be free from being blackmailed by the prospect of losing their jobs are encourage to contact me quickly.  Those who want it fast just click on the picture above, because lets face it,  if you cannot see an opportunity when it is staring at you in the face and take action quickly,  your financial blueprint needs changing and then maybe a chat with me will help.
